Follow-up Comment #3, bug #17473 (project mypaint):
GIMP's new behaviour is annoying me actually, because I rarely have an image
complex enough to bother with XCF.

getting into the habit of selecting "discard changes" automatically. That
can't be good.
I expect we have the same situation in MyPaint: a number of users who hardly
ever bother with layers and see ORA mainly as something that they can't open
in Photoshop or Blender or whatever.
Maybe we should only remind to save as ORA if the image actually has layers.
There is some minor data loss with a single layer too, but not enough to
bother asking.
