Details:
The new toolbar is a good idea for new users, but waste valuable screen space
for those that don't need it. There's already an option to hide it in
fullscreen mode, how about the same for normal use? I really like the
customisation available for fullscreen mode, and think it would be useful in
regular window mode.
If that's not an option, perhaps provide a way to get rid of the text on each
entry. I'd prefer being able to remove the whole thing, but providing a way
to remove the text would help some. This might be a good idea even alongside
an option to disable completely, because the full toolbar doesn't fit on a
1680x1050 screen with icon+text. I don't know what sort of HIG Gtk apps are
expected to follow, but you can configure that sort of thing via right-click
context menu in KDE apps on a per-app basis, including what items appear on
the toolbar.
To be clear, I think having the toolbar available is a good idea, it's more
touch- and tablet-friendly for users that haven't configured shortcuts yet,
but it could really use some customisation. It currently wastes a lot of
space and isn't always necessary.
