Follow-up Comment #5:
Fixed by keeping it white.
Scratchpad BG can no longer be changed via GUI, and will always reset to
white if you hit "clear". However you can overwrite
~/.mypaint/scratchpads/autosave.ora with a ORA file that uses a different
background.
