Did you get any warnings at all when compiling lirc that may be relavent?
Do you have it attached right at the IR input of the echostar box?
Which HOWTO did you follow? Personally, I like this one:

One thing you may want to try is winlirc on a windows machine quick. Since there is no compiling, config, etc to get in your way it makes it really easy to quickly test out a remote config file.
I'm not sure about the DBS config comments you mentioned.
You may want to check the LIRC list archives at http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum=lirc-list and ask there if you can't find any info.

Hi, I bought an irblaster from http://www.irblaster.info/, nice looking unit. I followed the irblaster howto to the letter, and everything seems to be working ok, BUT no channels change. -ledxmitd is logging events -infra red pulses coming out of the device when I run the change_channel scripts (I checked with a digital camera) -no channel changing at all!! -tried http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/echostar/ -tried http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/expressvu/ -tried http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/dishnet/
I am starting to think that either some settings for my serial port are not right, or the irblaster is not the right one for the expressvu.
The echostar DBS config looks like the right one. I am not sure what is meant by the following comment though: "You may have to play with the one/zero widths to get it working on a particular computer." (see below)
I don't know what the one/zero settings should be or what they mean anyway.
I think my param.h HZ setting is 1000. Is there another place to set this in the linux kernel?
Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks, Pb

I have changed the remote code set to #6 and #9, since the config offers both.
