You want to run "irw" at a command line. Press the button you want to correct and it will display what the IR receiver received.
Then in your lircrc file, you map that to the Myth function you want. You can have more than one button do the same thing in Myth. This is what the section would look like in your file (note I added the "<--- COMMENTS" they don;t belong in the lircrc file. begin prog = mythtv button = REW <---THIS IS WHAT irw REPORTS repeat = 4 config = Left <-- THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT IT TO BE IN MYTHTV end It took me a couple of tries to get my head around the remote programming as well.
