Mike,

Maybe I am focusing on the wrong error.  Here is the error I get when running mythfrontend:

Mike,

Yes, I am running MythTV 0.17.

Mythtvsetup does run the GUI and I can setup all options.  I went ahead and ran mythfilldatabase successfully.  I have started mythbackend.  When I run mythfrontend, I get the same error I got when I ran mythtvsetup.  I cannot get to the mythfrontend GUI.

I originally mentioned the error in mythtvsetup, because that is the first error I saw, and it was repeated when running mythfrontend..

I am using a Hauppauge WinTV Go card.  I am in the United States.

I assume that you are on 0.17 given the joystick message.

You did not make it clear if you were able to get the gui up at all

or if the gui is crashing.

The mythfilldatabase message normally comes up after you have

done mythtvsetup and you have exit.

Also can you say what tv card you are using

and which country you are in.

Mike,

I am doing all of this logged on as root.

This looks like a protection permissions issue.
Have you tried running mythtvsetup as root

Myth will ignore Lirc in the event that you are using the keyboard
and should not stop you running mythtvsetup

I am trying to setup MythTV under Red Hat Fedora Core 3.

I have gotten as far as mythtvsetup and have received the following error message:

  [root at localhost ~]# mythtvsetup

  2005-02-13 11:25:20.536 Switching to square mode (G.A.N.T.)

mythtv: could not connect to socket

  mythtv: Connection refused

lirc_init failed for mythtv, see preceding messages

  2005-02-13 11:25:20.795 Joystick disabled.

If this is the master backend server:

Now, please run 'mythfilldatabase' to populate the database

  with channel information.

I do not have a remote control.  How do I convince MythTV to ignore lirc?

  Ralph
