Are you running the video output on a 2nd head? XvPutImage should be syncing it automatically (so no tearing), but this doesn't work in a multi-headed situation. If using an nvidia card, there's also a setting in the nvidia-settings app to enable/disable this, but it's enabled by default.

No... it's always been on a singlehead. Now that I think about it, however, I'm not sure if I've tried it since I switched to an Nvidia card with proprietary driver. I used to use a r128 Gatos. I'll check for sure tonight and make sure it's still broken. It should "Just Work" if the SGI_vsync whatever extension is there, though, eh?
