I've had some issues similar to this. I have a PVR250, which I think is relevant to my situation, maybe yours, but no one mentioned that was their capture card. Restarting the backend after bootup would allow me to record sound to my card. I've seen some other issues on the list relating to ivtv/mythbackend loading issues (static or stuck on a channel), but I've since lost the email, and haven't been able to retrieve it from my gmail archive (search parameters). I'd search more right now, but I'me coming back from a party and am a bit inhebriated, or something.
