There is an option in the .17 settings somewhere (don't know about
earlier versions, this is the first one that I have used) to
automagically skip commercials. I turned this on, and now when I watch
a recorded program it is commercial free.

I believe that the commercials are still in there, and you have to
take an additional step to cut them out, but I've not investigated
this yet, as I'm still only using about 3% of my 200GB drive.
