I'm always right, it's a bad habit I have ;-)

It took me quite a bit of googling to find it which is why I've posted it a
few
times.

I don't mean to cause offence but whoever it was (I can't remember his name)
was stupid, the bios update failed (on trying a 'beta' bios ISTR) and he
rebooted
when he should have reflashed back either to the original or a 'stable'
bios.

If you *do* fsck it up then if you read the manual you find a bit saying
something along
the lines of if you fsck up the update then pop the original driver CD in,
it will
detect that the bios is foobar'd and reflash from the CD.

Personally I'd say yes but YBMV...

If you've already installed linux, don't have a spare HD and are happy with
the noise
then don't bother, of course you may already have a 1002.003 or later bios
anyway.

One nice thing I noticed but didn't have a chance to play with was there
appeared to
be a utility to package a different image along with the bios, might be nice
to have
a mythtv bios splash page unstead of the Asus one.

Depends, Mine came with 1002.002 and was very noisy, the fan would rev
up and down (which was actually more annoying than just staying constant)
also I needed the later (1002.006) bios as I got a nvram-wakup.conf file
for it. Once I updated (which was totally painless) it was *much* quieter
