Hi Don,
I think they are all made in China. On eBay, I see that
gg_electronics_llc has them. I purchased a GQ-4X programmer from them
last year (also made in China) and it has worked fine so I would feel
confident buying from them again. At $55 with free shipping (or $47
from other vendors) it is not too large an investment to program chips &
test IC's. The standalone IC test I have is a Leap LP-1 which worked
well for a local club member so I got one. They retailed for about $275
but I paid $225. It works well but if the TL-866cs works as advertised
it is a lot more versatile & a lot cheaper.
Regards,
Jeff

Cool. An IC tester would be a great additional.
I checked eBay and there seem to be a lot of Chinese/Hong Kong
Versions of the TL 866CS. Are
thes TL866's an unauthorized knock off? I'm also seeing other similar
versions. Most all are
from overseas. I have grown to not trust these sources so much.
Recommendations of a decent low cost IC tester would be appreciated.

Jeff, I have the same issue... I pack everything away with the
idea that it's still useful, I will use it some day. Of course,
in reality, I probably reuse 1% of what I pack away... But every
now and then, I come across a project where I'm really happy I had
that part in stock.
I recently bought a TL 866CS eprom programmer and IC tester. I
have only used it a couple of times to program. But it's very
neat to think it can test the IC's too.
How were those mis-labeld IC's? I heard China relabels some chips
to scam people.
