In my day job I use a Freescale i.MX6 (quad core) with Linux and Android on top of that.
All processors and SoCs especially seem to have their warts, but I don't find the i.MX6 any worse than others overall. I personally wouldn't worry about the Linux support for the i.MX6 as even if a distro drops support (such as Ubuntu) I believe the support will be in the kernel for the long term. Freescale provides BSPs (Linux and drivers needed for most of the SoC components.) Getting a board up and running with an ARM cpu and especially a SoC is going to be non-trivial I think. Not to say I wouldn't be interested in it though! Interesting stuff! * G.
