Salon Happenings
Sunday, November 9 was our first HopeCuts event held at Artistic Trends. We
will be donating $275 to the cause. Thanks to Allison for arranging the
event, thanks to Barb, Deb and Alison for donating their time and services,
thanks to Jess, the Weirbacks and Fitzgeralds for supporting us and having
services done to raise money.
In October we raised $75 for the sale of Breast Cancer Bracelets – we have a
few more available. We also raised $133 from the bake sale. Thanks to all
who purchased from our sale. All of the proceeds go to the Susan . Komen
Breast Cancer Foundation.

Celebrate Recycling….. On November 15, Americans will celebrate America
Recycles Day. Recycling is a simple way in which everyone can protect the
environment, preserve our natural resources and contribute to the economic
well being of our nation. According to the National Recycling Coalition,
the recycling industry is comparable in size to the auto and truck
manufacturing industry. That is a lot of jobs! By recycling, we help keep
or create jobs in our communities.
Recycling our containers and papers is a great start, but each of us can
close the recycling loop by buying recycled products too, at home and at
work . ( At home we purchase only Marcal or Seventh Generation paper
products, both made from recycled papers). When you look at products and
the packaging they are in, favor ones that clearly state on the label how
much recycled materials they contain. Every bit helps.

Taco Soup with Pork and Beans – a crockpot recipe.
1 lb. ground turkey or beef
1/2 a small onion finely diced
1 envelope dry taco seasoning
2 Tbsp brown sugar
1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
15 oz. kidney beans drained
15oz canned corn drained
15 oz pork and beans
46 oz can tomato juice
taco chips crushed
shredded Mexican cheese
sour cream
Brown meat and onion in skillet. Drain. place in slow cooker.
Add in taco seasoning, brown sugar, pepper. Add beans, corn, pork and beans
and tomato juice. Mix Well.
Cover, cook on low 4-6 hours.
Garnish individual bowls with taco chips, cheese and sour cream… ENJOY!!
