Bravo Sheryl! From my brain to your fingertips (and then some!) I've been
trying to come up with a response to this threat that didn't sound like I
was flaming any Nail Manufacturers and you said it beautifully!

I'm on that soap box with you!

Subject: NailTech:: Re: Response to ? about Brisa Lamp from CND

Just my 2 cents here.

My husband was 3rd generation in the lighting industry. He actually
helped designed some bulbs once upon a time. So I have some background here.
He says “Nope.” 9 watts is 9 watts all day long. We looked into my
husband building box for me because we did not have tunnel lamps yet. The
most you could find was a 1, 6 watt bulb, 1 finger at a time bar light. I
actually had him research as well. There is also no such thing as a 36
watt light. You have a tunnel light with four 9 watt bulbs, you have more
Even Curing so it may seem faster over all……. But it is Still 9 watts! I
have worked for 3 Gel manufacturers since then and the information stays the
same. If a Gel product is SO Finicky (The way their CND AC use to be with
Ratio) that their bulb is the only bulb that can be used with their product
I don’t want to use it.

If a Gel calls for a 6 watt bulb and you use a 9 watt some gels can be
over cured and then get brittle , so Over Cure can be an issue but if you
cut the time by 1/3 to ½ that usually takes care of that. That was one of
the reasons time was so essential with some formulas. No one wanted to
change the equations so they said it cant be done. A lot of it depends on
the amount of “photo initiators” in the Gel. Some will over heat and cause
damage just like CND mentioned. But our development of Gel has come a Long
way and we learned a great deal from European Development. They could not
use AC in Europe because BPO was banned for public use. They developed their
technology in Gels and Far surpassed us in that Arena. I remember ordering
Gel that came out to $90 ( with shipping taxes and tariff) an oz and you did
not want to have to file that stuff because it was more expensive than a oz
of Gold at the time! You wanted to cry as you brushed the dust off your
table! Our US formulas have come a long way and they are not so finicky as
they use to be. Just as the AC formulas are so much more user friendly
today.

The first Gel I ever used was Vibrato, I was told I had to use their
light or the gel would not cure properly. Every Gel I ever looked at from
then on said the same thing. EVERY gel company wants you to invest in their
light and use their bulbs. The biggest part of the investment in their
product is in their light! It keeps you from changing away from their
product! IF you had to buy a new light with every new gel you would never
switch gels! Which is one reason So many people did not want to do Gels
“Back in The Day” because if you could not work the first gel you chose you
did not want to waste money on another system you might not like. I heard
that non stop when I demoed at shows. I will not invest in another system I
can NOT use. So Techs gave up on gel! Bad Marketing ploy in my opinion. Just
like at a show you pick the person with the Model hands to demo on so the
product looks flawless and easier to use. Then if the tech gets home and
can’t make it work because he does not have a hand model she thinks it is
her not the product. Bad marketing. As an Educator I want to that the “Manly
hand” and make it look feminine. To me that takes more talent and gives the
tech a more realistic view of what the product can do for the every day
woman.

YEARS ago Diana Bonn and I went through this. You said the word “Gel”
and she got this stubborn look on her face and you Knew it was not gonna
happen. We have come a Long Way and Look at her with Gels Now! I laugh
every time I read about her and gels. ( Luv ya Diane) J
