Hello all!

Just a couple thoughts on nail techs. Like most things, there is a cycle to
life.
I think there are a lot of nail techs right now that are at a different point
in the
cycle of life than others. I know that is the case with me.

I am a booth renter, have been for almost all of my 24 years in the nail
business.
I have attended less in education in the past 9 years of my career. Not
because I
think I know everything. Because of where I am in the cycle of my life. I am
the only parent to a 9 year old little boy. He gets most of my spare time,
most of whatever extra
money there is, and I'm loving every minute of it. I believe there are
probably a lot of
seasoned nail techs out there right now, who have put education on the back
burner to
some degree, because of other things in their life. Be it families, children,
aging parents,
or perhaps they dedicated many hours to their businesses so that they could get
to a point where they could pull back a bit, and now they are reaping what they
sowed. I know I feel like that...I put my time in many years ago...worked all
the holidays, all the weekends, went to every bit of education I could find,
etc etc. I still put my time in, it's just that it's much less time than what
some other techs are putting in. I still give the clients that I have more
than 100%, yet I have seen a decline because of the economy, and all that
stuff. Would I be doing better if I attended more classes? I don't think
so...I think I would be totally burned out, and not enjoying my life at all.
Right now, I love my career, love my family life, I'm loving it all. Because I
have found the balance that I need to have it all.

Remember the 80/20 rule in life. Twenty percent of the people do 80 percent of
the stuff. It almost never fails. My guess is, that 20 percent of the nail
techs out there attend 80 percent of the classes. That also means that there
is another 20 percent that does 80 percent of the complaining that the economy
is bad, they can't build a clientele, etc etc. Just make sure you're in the 20
percent group that you want to be in. Don't judge what everyone else is doing,
for until you walk in their shoes, you don't know if what they're doing is
what's right for them, or if they're just part of the complaining group. Just
know that if you take care of yourself, you will be taken care of. Besides,
who wants all those complainers to stick around the nail business anyway? Let
them move on to something else and complain about that.

Just my two cents worth...

I cannot believe the Nail Techs out there that are just not
interested in more education! I have heard, “Why should I take another
class when I already have my certificate to do nails” too many times!

There are Nail Salons in my area that are closing due to loss of
clients they are blaming on the economy, yet I am new to this town and I gain at
least one new client every week! Clients aren’t leaving because of the
economy, they are leaving because they are unsatisfied with their nails.

What is wrong with this picture L

Is this relatively small group of Nail technicians that frequent
this mailing list, and the BT Boards, the ONLY ones that see the necessity on
taking
more classes to improve our craft?

Thanks for listening to my vent, it’s good to have such a
wonderful group of Nail Tech Sista’s
