Hi Lynnette,

Lots of advice here.. I see. All valid.

This is what I remembered after reading just your post.

Client
Heart Condition
She is on Hospice ( that usually means more than a heart condition.. and
not long at that)
1 hour away
Longest STANDING (appointment ) client
Do I charge her for ..........................?

With those things in mind....

No, " I " wouldn't charge her.. I'd cherish the time I have with this
person ... her loyalty... and the fact
that it may be you she really wants to see.. not a set of nails.

Think of it as a total write off.. and keep your mill age .. products
used.. etc etc. I'd have a nice little basket of some neat little things..
you
want to give and share w/ her.
I'd also let her know when she tries to pay me.. its on the house.. until
your up.. and moving.
And ask her when she might want you to come back.. set up a attentive
date!
In other words.. she gave you loyalty.. all those years.. give her a smidge
of hope.. and knowing you want to
see her and be there for her too.

Lets face it.. even though she may know she is dieing.. she isn't gone
yet.. she is still female.. still alive and has feelings.. and most of all..
she is probably dreading.. fearful.. hurt.. and feeling pretty alone, right
now.

I have gone thru so much myself in the last 5 yrs.. just like many here on
the message list.
On May 29th, I went to Atlanta.. as a surprise to a dear friend.. Dorothy,
that is more like a mother to me than a friend. It was her 98th Birthday.
She had no idea I was coming... lol either did I.. until the day before.

I decided.. that time flys too fast.. we can never say or do in the
future.. what has to be done now. So.. at 98 I know it could be any second..
and
I'd never get to see her again.
So.. even though we were hurting in May for money.. I bought that plane
ticket and rented that car once there and I went and saw her.. and ya know
what ?
I will never ever regret... that I took that money and used it for that.
Never.
My present to her was a pot of mum's... not much, but... she said it
doesn't matter .. your here!

One step at a time, one person at a time.. one touch at a time..

A Post Script to this too--- I also give lots of freebies to clients. A
little nail art here and there--free repairs when the snap their nails with
gardening shears or in the car door. I will give them a free upgrade to P
and W because all of them then move over to them.
I was going to ask all of you your opinion on this: I have a client that
van no longer get here due to her heart condition. She is on Hospice. She
and her family want me to go to her and do her nails. This was almost
impossible the past three weeks, but I was going to go down to her Saturday
until
my 5: made an appointment with the kitchen designer. Then I had to go visit
my father who is in the hospital. (Stage 4 pancreatic cancer). So I
thought I could go Wednesday night.
Sooooo, here is the question: she is almost an hour away. Do I charge her?
For the service? For travel? I plan on putting her in pink and whites so
she can go a month without a fill and the nails will still look good. If I
do not do her nails before she dies she will come back to haunt me!!! She is
my longest standing client from when I started nails in this area.
So, what would YOU do? Charge or not?
Muchas gracias all,
Lynnette

your post reminded me of something....many times when I have not charged
for a few repairs or have thrown in some nail art...the client often gives
me a bigger tip!! Saying something like,"oh come on now you did SOOO much
work today!" I usually just smile....and say thank you!
and...that makes me look like the "good guy" ...LOL

i had a teacher in nail school that said the only person she doesn't
charge is her mother cause she gave birth to her. my mom doesn't get her
nails
done, so i spread the love else where. I don't charge my friends or family
BUT... they don't come in all the time either. so the few times a year
that I give them a free mani or pedi doesn't hurt me. they usually hide
money in my desk when I'm not looking cause i refuse to take it from them.
plus i try to ;make sure they are my last clients of the day so we can hang
out for a while. i don't mind doing simple nail art for free either.
Nothing that takes more than a few minutes though. Nail repairs are free IF
they are a regular client.
