Hey Angie…since Pati mentioned my name, I’ll share with you my technique. I do
write up a ticket for every client…right in front of them…and write down ALL
the services that I did!  If there is some service or product I am not going to
charge them for, I make the very next line say “Promotional <$$>”  and subtract
out the amount I’m giving away.  Total up the ticket and announce “your total
today is $$.”  Then I turn the ticket around to face them so they can read it
for themselves…and to have it handy as they write their checks.

For tickets I use “scratch pads” from Office Depot that are 3” x 5” …I write
the client’s name, the date in the top right corner and then list their
services and purchases.  I try to keep the services separate and subtotaled so
they can calculate tips easily. <wink>

This ticket is my written record of all that I do every day…and everything I
sell. I enter them into Quickbooks…and I am always grateful for having written
everything down. An example is that I am able to tell that Client Kim has spent
over $XXXX this year…but I have written off $YY of freebies for her….saying
“thank you” to my most loyal clients is one way I insure their happiness with
Morning Glory.  I run the reports from time to time to make sure that I am
saying “thank you” in some way to everyone who is a regular client.

Not only that…I can tell how many times I’ve ACTUALLY done any given
service…How many I’ve given away…and how much I’ve ACTUALLY been paid for
them….NOT just how much money I’ve netted for doing that particular service.

I’ve had more than one client say they appreciate the itemization…one in
particular says she can never guess how much her stylist will charge her even
though she gets the exact same thing done every 4 weeks like clock work!

Hope this helps!

That is a great idea. I don't make out tickets. I should start. Do you give the
client a copy and you keep a copy? I never charge for a broken nail or two
either.  One or two nails with a few rhinestones on them, No big deal. Don't
take me anytime or cost nothing. I charge on the high end, so if my clients are
loyal, then it is worth it to me. What price do you put on the ticket for a
broken nail? I never charge for that. How do you figure your price. A full set
is $50, so one full nail would be $5. But if you are already paying for a
refill, how much extra would a broken nail be?

welll...not everyone agrees with me here but,,,,
I have always done family for free....immediate family that is....( gosh they
do alot for me)
clients that want a few wisps and maybe a rhinestone or two...I will alot of
the time throw that in complimentary for them.  I don't charge for
repairs...within reason...more than 4 repairs..yes i will charge you....
For me...this is my "thing" ...people love  a"deal" and what I do is a great
deal!   it is worth a rhinestone or two to retain a client so be it.
You should of course be charging good prices while doing this.  I think it was
Karen once that told me to write a ticket up with all the real prices on
it...then mark complimentary on the bottom and add that up...and subtract the
comps from the real price and circle the new total....This way the client knows
just exactly how much you are giving them!!  JMHO.....and it has always worked
well for me!
