Dayna, I use the foam to remove the sticky layer of gel after it has cured.
Foam saturated with alcohol, leaves nothing behind, like lint. IBD makes ideal
ones, but they are expensive, so I buy the foam and cut them myself.

I don't have any buffer block pieces at home. As you know, a buffer block is
less than 5" in length and about an inch square. The 4 rectangular side
surfaces are the filing areas. I cut one block (crosswise) into 5 equal slices
which are approximately 3/4" thick. Then I lay the slices flat, on a cutting
board and slice them diagonally from corner to corner, creating 2 mini-buffing
triangles (they have 2 buffing surfaces). I use a serated bread knife which I
bought at TJ Maxx specifically for cutting through the rigid foam. An electric
knife works really well too, but I misplaced my blades when we remodeled 4
years ago! I'll try to remember to take my camera to the shop on Tuesday!

Could someone explain to me what this foam is and what you use it for?
Also Marsha, could you send me a picture of your buffer block pieces. I have
only been able to cut them in half, any more than that and they look terrible.
Thanks,

Me too, Diana! I use my paper cutter to cut those little foam squares. Were you
able to find thin, thin foam? I think mine is about 3/8" and I'd prefer 1/4".
I'd also prefer a more dense foam than the mint green color I found at JoAnn.

I saw an ad awhile back for mini buffer blocks. For the past 2 years or so,
I've been cutting mine in 5 equal pieces then cutting those in half diagonally.
So I'm able to get 10 toenail buffers from one buffer block. We are so cheap!!

Oh I forgot to mention something.  I use alcohol to really clean the
nails.  But you have to use something that does not have lint or
leaving anytime of residue.

the little sponge foam things from the gel companies are so
expensive.  So I went to JoAnn Fabrics and bought a sheet of
foam.  It was on sale for 3.99 a yard, and brought it home and started cutting.

Save money, but lordy be does your hand hurt from cutting all those
little squares!!! LOLO Have zip lock bags full of foam all over the
place!! hehehehhe diana from indiana
