I work at a high end salon too. We just hired a new nail tech fresh out of
school. You know what she told me? That I follow the rules too closely when
it came to sanitizing my implements and pedicure bowls!!! I was FLOORED!
When I informed the owner she said for me to tell her she had to sanitize
like I do but never followed up with it. Unbelievable.

I worked in a very upscale dayspa and I could not for the life of me get the
owners to get the other nail techs or the other stylist that did nails to
follow proper protocol when it came to impliment disinfection. The stylist
working as a nail tech gave 3 people serious infectious and one of those
people was one of the spa managers and she never fired. I finally left.
Using that as just one of the many many violations they broke on a daily and
weekly occurance and I wasn't going to risk my good name or good practices
for all that. So to let all ya'll know it isn't just the non-standard
salons that make or carry out violations continuously.

I also know of another well know dayspa in the area that had violation
problems too. It's everywhere!!!!

I just had a student of mine hired at a very HIGH END SALON and the manicure
area was very nasty and wouldn't have passed state board inspection if they
had visited when she statrted there. So ladies alot of salons out there have
gotten lax lately and need to shape up.
Ok enough of my soap box.

Pedicure tubs that they either reuse the same water or do not clean between
clients. This is both chop shop and nss.
Many techs use the nss term as it is nicer than chop shop. Nss places can be
very upscale salons not following industry standards.
Years ago some of the sector that is referred to as chop shops started to
scream racist because it was close to chop suey!! I guess they never
realized that chop suey is actually an American made recipe. It makes no
sense!
Anyway you choose the term for you. I call it as I see it. I will start
calling them salons when they follow the standards that I follow and board
regulations that I follow.
Those photos say it all. Thanks Michele,

Subj:NailTech:: GREAT pedicure gone bad photos

Michele Phelan-Cowan has the best photos of a bad pedi from a chop shop on
her Facebook page.
If anyone ever saw this and then still continues to patronize those chop
shops, then they deserve all they leave with.
Go take a look.
