I apply it by lightly brushing it on from left to center and then right to 
center like I would polish, unless the free edge is really minimal, then I will 
use a stripper brush.  I also use a square gel brush that is not synthtic 
hair...
As far as the Cina pens go, try removing the tacky layer, applying the french 
line apply clear gel and cap the free edge...I know you don't have to normally 
cap the edge with Eco, but when I use the pen I do and it helps.
