I've had clients with discoloration that we traced back to new gloves, or new clothes with black, or really dark dye.

I've seen this happen on regular polish with woman that use a lot of product on their hair. What happens is they do their hair, finish with some spray way or lots of hair spray and then they DON'T WASH THEIR HANDS. They end up with a build up of hair product on their nails and dirt, debris and who know's what now gets attached to that a well. Usually, if you take a pad with alcohol on it, the discoloration will wipe off. Ask her about her hair products and ask her to start washing her hands well after doing her hair and see if it works. Also, try the alcohol trick to see if it comes off, if it does, you know it's on the surface and the product isn't turning colors.

Michelle,

A thought just entered my mind and so I thought I would throw it out there : ) I think that sometimes we hit the "nail on the head" as to what the problem is and either A) the person isn't aware that this is what is happening... or B) they don't want to admit it for whatever reason. (Ughhhh!) We are left with the wondering what else it could be.

What product are you using on her? Shellac right?

could it be that she's hitting the light or getting too close and it's burning or that you are curing it for too long?

Those aren't dumb questions at all. I asked about makeup and self tanner too. And she's not leaving tacky because she's one of my nail techs. It's very strange.

Any suggestions about why this is happening? She's not tanning or coloring hair

or smoking. The tips are brownish as though exposed to self tanner.
