I would complain to the owner and insist that the cosmetologist get up to
standards, like everyone else, or I will find a different salon to work at that
is up to MY standards.

I know that you do not want to move and hopefully if you confront the owner
with your complaint she will tell the hair dresser that she cannot work any
more until she posts a valid license. It's the holidays, hold her feet to the
fire and she will comply.

The owner needs to grow a pair and stand up for HER salon. This is HER business
with all HER money in it. I just do not get stupid people.

Back when I owned a salon, I hired a new nail tech. She kept "forgetting" to
bring her license into the salon and get it hung up. I got a new frame to match
the rest and had it already on the wall ready for her. After 1 week I told her
that I would not book any more clients with her until she produced her license.
She confessed that her licensed had expired. I told her to get it straightened
out before she could work one more day at MY salon. Never heard from her again.
I needed her, too. I was turning away business daily. It's just not worth any
profit to employ an unlicensed tech, period!

Think about this: we bitch and moan about the chop shops and "nss" with their
unlicensed employees. This is no different. If the word gets out that "Gina
from such and such salon" is not licensed, it will turn into just "THAT salon
hires unlicensed employees."
The reputation of your salon is at stake.
I see Sue's point, but we are striving for industry standards and right now
Aimee's salon is falling below standard.
Just like the chop shops, if I found out there were unlicensed workers, I would
find another salon.
Geezus how hard is it to get online and renew? (unless you are in PA which has
THE most unfriendly website ever)
JMHO.....

I forgot to say the inspector should be WELL aware this person hadn't renewed.
Let's just say letters had been sent, checks bounced, etc.
Yes, this person was present at the salon during the inspection and even
chatted with the inspector (but it seemed friendly not about the license issue).
Now maybe the hairdresser will get more letters from the state board, but come
on! This is now over a year old issue.
The salon owners are never in the salon and are not in the business (they have
other careers and opened the salon as a business venture). We are all booth
renters.
Would one person with this issue shut the whole salon down when we booth rent?
