we have a vacuum exclusively for our pellet stove and it is loud! Have you tried a WTAC? I am not sure actually if they are still making them or not...I LOVE mine......it is about 15 years old..at least and still working fine...

I was goofing around on amazon the other day and came across an ash vacuum (for fireplaces). So, I'm thinking if it will handle ash then nail dust should be a breeze. Right?
