Subject: NailTech:: Groupon & other stuff

Groupon was MORE than happy to have me as a customer!  We went back and forth
about what to offer and finally decided on $60 worth of nail care services for
$30 purchase price.  (manicure/pedicure/acrylic/gel/tips/shellac anything on my
menu)  I had to create a website to participate in groupon.  I was worried that
I might sell 100 of these coupons and not have time to actually service the new
clients, but not to worry, they didn't "feature" me but added my groupon as a
side offer next to the deal of the day.  I sold 8.  Groupon takes half of each,
takes the other half, takes out a "credit card fee" of 3% or something like
that
(they said they were "splitting" it with me, I doubt it!  Told them they should
get "the Square!)  I've had 2 of the clients come in so far, they were very
nice
and really enjoyed their services.  What it really came down to was this:

Do you want to sit there with NO ONE in your chair, OR  do you want to fill
those empty spaces with clients who are giving you a chance to do an excellent
service and build a relationship with that makes them WANT to come back for
more?

One of the groupon clients sent in her daughter for a manicure after having a
manicure/pedicure herself.  Its the referrals that these client are going to
make that will generate income too, don't forget.  If they can talk their
friend, their sister, their mother, their co worker into coming to you, you
have
made more than the dumb amount Groupon gives you.  Here's another dumb groupon
thing, their contract states that they can send you your payments in thirds,
1/3
the first month, 1/3 the second month, 1/3 the third month.  Stupid.   I ONLY
SOLD EIGHT!  They still sent me only 1/3 of the payment!  Gawd!  Really!?  8 x
15 = $120 freakin dollars!  Geesh!  Nope.. I got 1/3 so far, $40 bucks!  Then
they took out the credit card fees too before they sent it.  Seriously!?
Anyway, the clients so far have been just lovely, have really enjoyed the
service, have commented what a "luxury/spa pedicure" it was and I think they
will recommend me and come back!  Meanwhile, it has filled my empty spots that
the snow birds have left!!   Those Fla people will be back sometime in April,
Thank God!

The other thing I did to fill the empty spots was an event for our senior
citizen activity center.  In February they have a "makeover event".  They have
someone cutting and styling hair, I do manicures, someone does chair massages,
someone else was doing  Mary Kay   makeup, etc.  I had them raffle off 3 free
manicure services that I did that day, then brought lots of business cards and
price menus and made up some gift certificates.  10 for $10 off any service, 10
for $5.00 off a manicure.  I had nearly every single lady there up at my table
asking me where they could sign up for a manicure!  I told them they had to
"win" the manicure service, but that I also brought gift certificates for the
raffle so they might win one of those.  Worked out great, they have been
redeeming them and it has helped fill those huge blank empty "gone to Florida"
spots in my book!   It was well worth the 3 hours of time and services that I
"donated" that day!  Remember, these are tax deductible "donations"!  You do
get
to claim them on your taxes for the full service price as a donation!

Hope this helps!
