The trauma caused from pounding your feet into the ground, due to force, ill 
fitting shoes, or long toe nails will cause bruising. This trauma will often 
times cause hikers and runners to lose their toe nails. Permanent damage to the 
matrix of the nail could cause the nail to not grow back correctly.

Lamisil is so very expensive and VERY hard on your liver... 

If the entire nail is coming off with no prior indication of separation, I 
would do whatever necessary to avoid taking Lamisil.... ie, wait for the nail 
to grow back on its own.
