Hi Patti,

I don't discount my services, but I do offer my clients a referral fee
of $5 off for each new referral. That way the clients do all the work
talking me up to their friends and I never waste money on 'bird drop'
advertising.....you know how when a bird flies it sometimes poops?
Well the droppings don't hit a mass of people even though they might
be flying over a crowd, but only hit 1 or 2 max. That's a similar
analogy to what happens when you pay to run an ad in the paper, tv, or
some other similar form of advertising....even though it's going out
to the masses, it generally only brings in 1 or 2 people. Then with
your discounted prices, how long will it take you to earn the $ back
that you just spent on advertising?

Your clients are your goldmine. Sometimes they assume you're too busy
to take new clients, but all it takes is you letting them know that
you have some vacant appointment spots you'd like to fill and then ask
them to refer their friends and family. This technique of a referral
fee rewards the established clients who've been loyal to you instead
of giving new clients (who may only be price shopping and come once) a
cheaper price.

It's free to list your salon with Google as a business and then when
clients google "nails + your city" your salon info will pop up. Also
like someone said a business Facebook page works great, too. I snagged
the title "Bowling Green Shellac Manicure" on FB before someone else
did and so now when someone in town types in "Bowling Green" my salon
FB page will come up. I didn't think this angle up, but saw other
techs in the USA do it so I jumped on it with quickness. I use other
brands of gel polishes as well, but "Shellac" has been the term most
all clients have heard from reading Glamour, Elle, Cosmopolitan, etc.
Shellac has become synonymous with gel polish, much like Kleenex has
become synonymous with tissue.

Just some ideas to get you thinking:)
