If the fee your salon charges is so much that it really cuts into your take home, make them aware of that if you like so they choose something else to help you out. I don't think people are so much brainwashed as becoming aware that they are not always getting what they thought they wanted. If you don't like Shellac then be upfront and give them the scientific differences so they can make an educated choice.
