I'm an employee!!  Getting 55% commision and having to pay a product fee.  If I
was a boothrenter I would charge accordingly.  They say they are not
comfortable raising the prices right now.  So.......  I bring all my products
in and try to give my clients all the information and knowledge they need but
I'm still getting screwed no matter what I use.  Shellac costs me $4 out of
every service.  My own product I buy, so do I really win??????

Are you an independent contractor or an employee??  If you are an employee,
talk to your owner about raising the price of Shellac ( and all of your gel
polish) service to eliminate the service charge to you.  Frankly, as a former
owner, that is what I would do.

If you are a booth renter, you can raise the price of the service yourself to
off set the product charge you are being charged or you can choose no to use
the Shellac.

I use several different lines (Shellac is one of them) – all successfully.   My
clients tend to pick based on colour, not brand.   Once they choose, I will
explain how the process works with that product, what they can expect from it,
how it will be removed, and what they need to do once they leave my salon.    I
do agree that most of them think of “Shellac” as the only product out there,
let’s face it, that’s the one that draws them in, and we as salon professionals
are benefitting from CND’s massive advertising campaign.
