Pam, that's pretty funny & very clever of you! If one peeled off the very next day, wouldn't common sense tell you to call your nail tech then? Not after days when 4 had peeled off? In all fairness, I also have had clients that cannot successfully wear 1 or the other brand (Gelish, Eco, or Shellac) as well as some clients who can't wear ANY gel polish, because they're rough as a cob on their nails and nothing can withstand their force!
OK, here's my rant to add to yours: I have to grit my teeth and be as diplomatic as possible sometimes when some clients complain that "it just chipped off and I wasn't doing anything".....REALLY? REALLY? Like they were just sitting there watching TV with their hands perfectly still and suddenly this earthquake of fissures opened up on all of their gel polished fingernails, resulting in many cracks & chips? It's especially obvious they "didn't do anything" when their free edges are broken completely off....and then for some reason the gel polish flakes off with it. Geee....I wonder why? You know, I have to say that this gel polish phenomenon has been totally awesome in both good and bad ways. It slays me when clients think that it's the magic cure all they've been looking for which will defy the laws of physics, kinetics, gravity or all of the above. They think they can do anything and everything WITH their fingernails and they should remain pristine.... simply because this gel polish is covering the tops of them. It's like they think they now have Superman nails of steel! You can always tell when they're implying that it's somehow YOUR fault when their gel polish chips...they get that whiny, "gee, I don't know what could have caused this to happen" tone. That's my cue to either say "Me neither because none of my OTHER clients chip their gel polish" or "would you rather go back to wearing traditional polish or nail enhancements?". It's frustrating to have this back and forth consultation over the pro's vs. cons of each different nail service they've already tried, yet abandoned when the gel polishes came on the scene. The ones who have trouble with it are disappointed because they thought it was the answer to their prayers for their weak, peeling, brittle, fragile nails.....so understandably they are frustrated, too. They don't like a natural nail manicure because the polish doesn't last long, but they love the paraffin dip, sugar scrub, and hand massage that comes with that service. But they also don't like the nail enhancements because of the maintenance, or cost, or that they feel heavy, or because of the bad publicity they've heard/read/saw on Dr. Oz, or because they "really just want to grow their own natural nails", yet they like the durability and strength of enhancements. Recently with one client I had to throw my hands up in the air and say "I give up. I'm at a loss as to what to do, because evidently what you want has NOT been invented yet". Until I remind them, they seem to forget that gel polish CAN last 2-4 weeks... depending on several things, such as: 1) strength & thickness of their natural nails to begin with. 2) what they do with their nails once they leave the salon. 3) type of work they do. 4) type of hobbies they have. 5) if they enjoy picking off their gel polish. 6) gardening without gloves. 7) washing dishes without gloves. >From now on when the complaining starts, I think I'll just say this: "You want to know WHY your gel polish chips? It's called LIVING YOUR LIFE! Your hands move and you touch things and your nails bend and then the gel polish chips! IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE, PEOPLE"!!!!! There. Now I feel better. For now:) Jill Wright Bowling Green, KY [email protected] On Apr 12, 11:43 pm, [email protected] wrote: > Hi Teks, > My rant for today: > I had a new client come in last Friday to have the shellac put on.
