Excellent Post JILL!!!! I give it 5 stars! * * * * * I will be printing it
out (anonymously of course!) and keeping it at my station to hand out to these
clueless clients! I have an additional rant to add about this client...
She shows up yesterday to get an eyebrow wax and while there, starts showing me
how "they are just peeling off!" by sliding her naked nail underneath and
lifting the edges and actually PEELING them OFF her nails IN FRONT OF ME!
SCREAM!!!!!!!!!!!! I had one client in the chair, and another waiting... they
BOTH gasped! You could hear their thoughts like a Vulcan Mind Meld! "IS SHE
NUTS! Does she not realize what PAM will do to her standing there and picking
off her gel!" Ya know... it made me nuts.. like nails on a chalkboard that she
was doing that just to PROVE to me that they were "just peeling off" while she
stood there and PEELED THEM OFF IN FRONT OF ME!! Some people are just
brainless! I mean, really, you tell me "they just peeled off" then you stand
there and PEEL them off to show me how they just suddenly started peeling off
themselves and falling off your nails!? really!? grrrrr... one of these
days... I may go with the suggestion to try gelish on her.. I bought a couple
of the colors today, and I have the gelish LED lamp (which bears the warning
that using it with other gel systems may cause severe burning or chemical burns
to the clients!) Gosh. .I don't know! Maybe its time to give her the "I can't
make you happy so you need to go somewhere else where they CAN make you happy!"
speech!

Subject: NailTech:: Re: "The Shellac Just Peeled Off My Nails"! Really?

Pam, that's pretty funny & very clever of you! If one peeled off the
ery next day, wouldn't common sense tell you to call your nail tech
hen? Not after days when 4 had peeled off? In all fairness, I also
ave had clients that cannot successfully wear 1 or the other brand
Gelish, Eco, or Shellac) as well as some clients who can't wear ANY
el polish, because they're rough as a cob on their nails and nothing
an withstand their force!
OK, here's my rant to add to yours:
I have to grit my teeth and be as diplomatic as possible sometimes
hen some clients complain that "it just chipped off and I wasn't
oing anything".....REALLY? REALLY? Like they were just sitting there
atching TV with their hands perfectly still and suddenly this
arthquake of fissures opened up on all of their gel polished
ingernails, resulting in many cracks & chips?
It's especially obvious they "didn't do anything" when their free
dges are broken completely off....and then for some reason the gel
olish flakes off with it. Geee....I wonder why?
You know, I have to say that this gel polish phenomenon has been
otally awesome in both good and bad ways. It slays me when clients
hink that it's the magic cure all they've been looking for which will
efy the laws of physics, kinetics, gravity or all of the above. They
hink they can do anything and everything WITH their fingernails and
hey should remain pristine.... simply because this gel polish is
overing the tops of them. It's like they think they now have Superman
ails of steel!
You can always tell when they're implying that it's somehow YOUR fault
hen their gel polish chips...they get that whiny, "gee, I don't know
hat could have caused this to happen" tone. That's my cue to either
ay "Me neither because none of my OTHER clients chip their gel
olish" or "would you rather go back to wearing traditional polish or
ail enhancements?".
It's frustrating to have this back and forth consultation over the
ro's vs. cons of each different nail service they've already tried,
et abandoned when the gel polishes came on the scene. The ones who
ave trouble with it are disappointed because they thought it was the
nswer to their prayers for their weak, peeling, brittle, fragile
ails.....so understandably they are frustrated, too. They don't like
natural nail manicure because the polish doesn't last long, but they
ove the paraffin dip, sugar scrub, and hand massage that comes with
hat service.
But they also don't like the nail enhancements because of the
aintenance, or cost, or that they feel heavy, or because of the bad
ublicity they've heard/read/saw on Dr. Oz, or because they "really
ust want to grow their own natural nails", yet they like the
urability and strength of enhancements. Recently with one client I
ad to throw my hands up in the air and say "I give up. I'm at a loss
s to what to do, because evidently what you want has NOT been
nvented yet".
Until I remind them, they seem to forget that gel polish CAN last 2-4
eeks... depending on several things, such as:
1) strength & thickness of their natural nails to begin with.
) what they do with their nails once they leave the salon.
) type of work they do.
) type of hobbies they have.
) if they enjoy picking off their gel polish.
) gardening without gloves.
) washing dishes without gloves.
>From now on when the complaining starts, I think I'll just say this:
You want to know WHY your gel polish chips? It's called LIVING YOUR
IFE! Your hands move and you touch things and your nails bend and
hen the gel polish chips! IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE, PEOPLE"!!!!!
There. Now I feel better. For now:)

 Hi Teks,
   My rant for today:
I had a new client come in last Friday to have the shellac put on. I did
he usual manicure and prep, and applied the shellac like I have been doing it
successfully!) for the last 2 years. So.. the client calls me today, and asks
e if I have time to "fix" a couple of nails. huh? FIX!? What do you mean by
fix"? Client: "Well, I had 4 of them that just peeled off! The one peeled
ff the very next day!" Visions of me "fixing" her "peeling" shellac nails in
n eternity shrouded in HELL swirled thru my mind! OH NO YOU DON'T my mind
houted! I quickly explained that if she were ALREADY experiencing "peeling"
meaning, OH BOY DID I EVER HAVE FUN PEELINGTHIS SHELLAC STUFF OFF MY NAILS AND
OW THERE WILL BE EVEN MORE FUN WATCHING THAT NAIL TECH "FIX" THEM SO I CAN PEEL
HEM OFF AGAIN!) I explained that she just might NOT be a good candidate for
he Shellac and that since some had already "peeled" off, we would not be able
o re-apply the Shellac to those nails because the surface that the Shellac was
dhering to probably peeled off with the Shellac and now we would have to soak
ff the rest of them and, well, I don't know.. wink wink.. probably just do a
egular plain ole manicure! Oh, boy was SHE ever shocked! lol! She stammered
few seconds, then I started offering her some appt. times to have the rest
oaked off and a plain ole manicure done. hehehe! She scheduled for a Saturday
ppt. but then called back later, left a message on my machine that "she forgot
he had a tire appt on Saturday".. yea.. right... geesh... I am thinking she
ctually DID pick them off, and expected me to re-do them for free! NOT! My
om came in today to have HER Shellac re-done... lets see.. that would be 3
reakin weeks ago I put the stuff on and it was friggin PERFECT! With her
ardening! and Cleaning! and scrubbing pots and pans! And cooking Easter
inner!? Hmph! I am OFFICIALLY:
 Tired of being walked on,
