Contact your state board and launch a complaint against the school.

Discuss the matter with who ever is in charge of the school. Explain how they
are failing you and ask for your money back. Seriously. They have an obligation
to provide you with a minimum amount of preparation for your state board exam,
and they are not meeting that.

Find a new school. Discuss your previous experiences before you sign up. Ask
about their success rates with manicuring clients passing their boards.

The unfortunate reality is-- as you'll hear from many other professionals--
that schools do not prepare you for your career as a nail tech. It will fall on
your own shoulders to learn and practice the skills that will make you
successful in the salon.

The school is responsible for preparing you to pass your state exams. From what
you descibe, I don't think they're doing that. It sounds like you don't even
know what to expect from your state board-- how could you know what to practice?

If you go through with leaving this school and transferring to another, DO NOT
let the school intimidate you into staying with them or not transferring the
hours you've earned toward the course or refunding AT LEAST any monies you've
paid for the course beyond what you've taken.

You might have fight on your hands with the school. But if you're serious about
getting your license, you need to find out what you need to pass those state
boards. After that, then you can really focus on what you'll need to make a
living in the industry.

>Hello everyone!
>I have been in nail tech school for 4 months. Sadly, the school is more geared
>towards cosmetology and just has a nail tech program in name only. I have
>accumulated 350 hours of the 600 needed for graduation. I was shown how to
>apply tips one time and left alone. I read chapters in my book then take a
>test. The school doesn't allow acrylics to be done on clients nor does it have
>supplies to teach me gel, etc. A lot of the things I have learned have been
>from youtube. I'm basically accruing hours just to be able to sit for boards.
>I've looked at the CND website to locate classes near me but the site doesn't
>list any courses in Louisiana or the surrounding areas.  I really need a
>mentor but I'm unsure how to go about doing that, especially since I can't
>work outside the school without a license.  Any suggestions as to how I can
>get better since my instructors aren't attentive? I purchased the more
>expensive nail kit hoping to get more supplies.  It's a
nail kit by OPI and includes the Absolute system and the odor-free system.  It
has tips from the perfection collection and I have found them to be difficult
to work with because they are so high.  I believe, from reading, that it is the
c-curve that is giving me issues.  I even asked the head instructor to review
my kit with me and she said, "once you see one kit you see them all." There
have been times when she was unable to refer to the eponychium or other nail
anatomy correctly. I feel like I am in an independent course.  :-(
