I opened my own small nail salon and I have to say word of mouth is the best
advertising I could ever have. I have been in business for 2 1/2 years doing
nails for 18 yrs. and am busy, thank God  I had my following of people and
rented a small space nothing big and elaborate, but I made it very clean and
pretty inside. I have thought about bringing someone in with me for a while
now, but everyone says it just gets messy dealing with people so I have not
yet.  When I do, it will have to be someone good or willing to learn because I
want to continue good word of mouth.  In the beginning I had given  free
Shellac manicures or regular manicures and I would tell clients they are
helping me try out some new products.  They always return and tell more people
about me. I sell retail also, but keep my inventory small for now. I did not
try to get big quick I am growing slowly.  I do my own books and have learned a
lot. This year is much easier, add up what
I take in (my income) and subtract my expenses keep expense receipts and
utilities.  I keep it simple cash or check, no credit cards or debit cards.
Also, I feel my clients like to be educated about products and like that they
can ask me questions about their nails. Keep your conversations with clients
light and fun and them talking, if they are having fun and like their nails
they will keep coming back and they will tell others.  Hope this wasn't too
long!

My one thing I would have changed is a partner to work with. My first one I
didn't know very well and was screwed over. But God always sorts that stuff out
. So with that said someone who isn't a financial partner but can be your go to
person. Someone you trust. That is what I would suggest.
First thing is you need to read ready set go, by Jeff Grisslor  and Eric Ryant

It was very helpful
