I agree with Karen. When I do an overlay for strength, I use hard gel, even if I'm going to cover it up with a SOG. I do a thin base layer, then I build structure where it's needed for strength (be sure to cap the free edge well!!!) I remove the tacky layer, buff with a foam buffer (I personally use the TT disposable clean finish buffer strips), and then I cleanse with alcohol and apply color coats and top coat.
