My poor nails are a wreck b/c I tend to pick off the hard gel when it starts to go. Then they end up w/ all sorts of levels of surface. LOL. I want to be sure I've got the technique right before I start offering it as a service. Are there any particular pros or cons to using hard or soft gel? When I do an overlay for strength, I use hard gel, even if I'm going to cover it up with a SOG. I do a thin base layer, then I build structure where it's needed for strength (be sure to cap the free edge well!!!) I remove the tacky layer, buff with a foam buffer (I personally use the TT disposable clean finish buffer strips), and then I cleanse with alcohol and apply color coats and top coat. In my experience, it is better to shape the nail before applying anything, to keep the capping in place, or I get free edge chipping. Good luck! :) Michelle Cordes <https://overview.mail.yahoo.com?.src=iOS> Sent from Yahoo Mail for iPhone _____ From: Karen Hodges <[email protected]>; To: <[email protected]>; Subject: RE: NailTech:: natural nail overlay question Sent: Thu, Aug 21, 2014 5:22:56 PM If you want to add strength, then yes you need to create a structural nail. It doesn’t really matter so much if you use soak off or hard gel….to prevent bending back and forth and breaking, build it right. Best of luck! Do I use a soft gel or a hard? Whenever I try it on my jacked up nails, I always get cracking and lifting. Thanks!
