Thought for the Day
Bad habits may seem like small twigs but they may actually be big unbending branches.
SIX-IN-ONE REFRIGERATOR COOKIES
2 C. butter or oleo, softened
1 C. sugar
1 C. brown sugar, packed
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
4 C. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
Cream butter. Gradually add sugars and beat until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix well. Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to creamed mixture. Divide dough into 6 (1 cup) portions. Then follow directions for Step 2.
Step 2:
1/2 C. shredded coconut
1/2 C. finely chopped pecans
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 (1 oz.) square unsweetened chocolate, melted
1/4 C. finely chopped candied cherries
Add coconut to one part; pecans to second; nutmeg and cinnamon to
third; melted chocolate to fourth; and candied cherries to fifth. Leave last portion plain. Chill for 30 min. or longer. Shape dough into 6 rolls about 1 3/4" in diameter. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate overnight. Dough may be frozen at this point.
When ready to use, slice in 1/8" slices. Place on lightly greased
cookie sheet. Bake in 375 degree. oven 10-12 minutes. Cool on rack. Makes 18 dozen. (Use your imagination to alter the added ingredients to reflect your
family's tastes.)
This is a family favorite taken from a 1973 Farm Journal cookbook

Strawberry Cake
1 box yellow cake mix, I used white instead
1 small box strawberry jello, next time I will use Wild Strawberry if they still make it
1 small box instant vanilla pudding
1 frozen container strawberry, thawed
1, 8 oz. container cool whip
This really needs a deep, over 2" deep, 9X13" pan. It is hard to put the top on it with all the ingredient on it.
Bake the cake mix according to the instructions on the box. While warm poke holes in the cake. Mix the strawberry Jell-O according to the instructions on the box and pour over the warm cake. Pour the strawberries with the juice over the warm cake. Mix the pudding according to instructions on the box and pour over top of the strawberries. Put in the refrigerator for several hours, at least 3 hours, or better overnight and then top with the cool whip when ready to serve. Have a great day.
