I think you're going to have to start peeking behind the kernel device
driver for the framebuffer to get more answers, and possibly crack the
schematics / PLD source to see how the LCD is being refreshed.  what you
describe seems like data corruption of the LCD's backing store.

it could also be something silly like a loose cable to the LCD.  (:
