Okay, I got some news to report - sadly, no success yet! A tip from Aaron Grier led me to realize I could rule out (or in!) the framebuffer as the culprit, by simply writing directly to it using open(), lseek(), and write(). Doing so, I have been able to confirm that the framebuffer appears to be working just fine. So I'm pretty sure it ain't the hardware...
So I tried Ricardo's suggestion to use Microwindows CVS, which I did. It took me a little while to sort things out, but I was able to try get it compiled. I've been working with LTIB (the Freescale release from last December, which has a newer kernel and supports 320x240 LCD). Because I'm not sure how to add a new package to LTIB yet, I decided to just apply the necessary patches (nothing too significant, it seems) and I was able to build it in LTIB's "spoofed shell environment" - pretty cool. But the results are no better than the 0.90 that came with LTIB. In fact, the launcher.sh demo is significantly worse - the entire lower half of the screen is all torn up, and there is significant flicker in the upper half now too! Now, I've learned a lot lately about Microwindows, LTIB, and the like, but I don't have anything to show my client for all this effort. Worse, I don't know what to try next. It just won't work for me! What am I missing? Attached is my latest config file for the CVS version - maybe someone can point out something obvious?
