At least one for every line of code I have ever written. I have been
lucky, I recently teamed up with an 'idea guy'. The relationship goes
something like this
"Hey Brandon, I have this idea for a <insert idea so obivious but
isn't being done yet/>. Is there an IT was to accomplish it?"
"Of course" I respond.
We aren't yet profitable, but should be withing six months, and it
sure beats the heck out of punching out lines of code all day. (I do
still code but not as much.)
So I guess my advice is to either find and idea guy, or be one, and
then help those ideas come to life. "Imaginate" them into
being.(Didn't someone recently use that word in a post?)
Since I have been in the IT industry, I have always worked a full time
job and then used my off hours to do other projects that might take
off and help me move away from a programming job. One year I wrote a
POS for a music store, hoping there would be follow on
sales/customizations. This year I am writing an environmental
management system.
Work hard and study hard and be open to take a chance when opportunity knocks.
I'll climb off my soap box now.
