It's because cost isn't the only factor. What really matters is how much
value we create for each unit of cost. You may charge twice as much as
somebody fresh out of college, but you need not worry about being
replaced by them, either. Just as long as you produce more than twice as
much value, you're a better deal.
Some people, even some executives, think that a lower price
automatically means a better deal. They are setting themselves up for
another opportunity to learn that doing things on the cheap can get very
expensive. This used to bother me, but I've since discovered that people
like that aren't good to work for anyhow.
