I had the upper aft lip of the well trimmed 1-2 inches to allow a Johnson 9.9 to be fitted after 2 years of constant engine and gearbox failures[the last causing a grounding with hull perforation, main hull flooding and a $15000 repair bill[thank you BOATUS for footing the bill] ]I tossed the 9.9 and fitted a yamaha 8  25" with power tilt. it has worked well and the power tilt allows the engine hatch cover to be left in place at all times.Low throttle torque is amazing but top speed is only 6.8knots,1knot slower than my old nissan8 After reading the old f27 handbook,I'm going to retrofit a non sailboat prop for higher top speed.    any feedback???  [I love the yamaha8,25  ,no cavitation, quiet and the powertilt is pure luury. Question for everyone with a Yamaha four stroke high thrust 8 --
what are you using?  I'm having a tough time fitting my engine.

I THINK the right answer is elec start, 25 inch "X" extralong shaft,
manual tilt NOT power tilt/trim, remote NOT tiller handle.

Unfortunately the dealer said it doesn't exist (although I found a
web site in Canada that sells this configuration).  He did say same
thing in 20 inch "L" Long shaft was available, and it LOOKS like 20
inch would work....

So has anyone used the power trim model without rebuilding the
well?  Or has anyone had good experience with just a 20 inch shaft?
