Oh, you poor thing! MIL's can be such a burden! How frustrating!!! My sister has a little girl like your Penelope. She has always been fine for height and head, but always under weight. She recently turned 2 and is just now finally on the charts - she's in the 2nd percentile! She's only 21 pounds (my 13-month old weighs 24!). My sister has had to give her that pediasure stuff for a long time; I'm not sure how old the baby was when she started. I can ask her more questions if you like. My sister just weaned her about a month after her second birthday. Her doctor says as long as she's developing fine, everything is ok. Every baby is so different; her metabolism is just different, and they have to feed her a little more fatty foods than the others. If your doctor does tell you to wean early or give you any reason to be concerned, please get another opinion. Remember, breastmilk has the best nutrition for your baby, hands down. Nothing can replace that. Solids in the first
year are more for fun and experimenting rather than nutrition, so you shouldn't have to force it on her so much to "fatten her up". Please keep us updated, and good luck!

turned six months old today!! it was kind of a stressful trip. first of
all, my mother in law works for the school district and is off for xmas
break so she asked to go, and i thought it would be harmless, so i agreed.
we got there and she acted like a a total idiot. the trip was stressful
enough because we got there and found out penelope has only gained five
ounces in the last month, putting her weight at (gasp!!) 12lbs. 11 oz. shes
25 inches long and has a head circumference of 16 and a 1/2 inches. so
length and head size are good, but the doctor felt she should weigh more
like 13 and a 1/2 to 14lbs. so while i had just started her on solids,
successfully, he wants me to give them to her three times a day, instead of
just once, and i have to go back in two weeks and get her weighed again. if
she hasnt gained at least 5-6 more ounces, he wants to put her on a high
calorie supplement. its a little scary, but because her head size is good
and developmentally shes up to date, he says not to be worried yet. but
like the whole time my mother in law asked stupid comments and questions
that made me cringe like, 'look at megans breasts, surely the baby is
getting enough to eat' (i am well endowed) and 'whatever you want megan to
do, just tell me, since i am the mother in law, i am the enforcer'. and
then she went on to ask if i should go ahead and wean penelope now to make
sure shes getting enough food. my dr kept looking at me like my other in
law was/is a nut, which i have decided that she is. never ever ever ever
ever never will i take her with me again. but anyway, back to
penelope...have any of you heard of anything like ths before or know anyone
that has gone through it? i am trying not to freak out, but i dont know.
ill keep you posted. thanks!
