Hi Dick & Ann and all the other F-Boaters out there,
Today I sailed on Tom & Linda's F-33 #007. The ride was thrilling. I know
how you guys in the frigid North must feel when we are enjoying sailing down
here in Florida and your boats are stored away for the winter.
Some thoughts on the F-33 for you dreamers who would like to own one of
these boats some day. The boat I sailed on was marvelously put together. I
could not find a single flaw. I understand Ian was there almost the whole
time it was being built.
The true wind was never over 12 knots by my crude way of measuring. Being a
rotating rig, Tom, the owner, does not have a windpoint/windspeed indicator.
I saw no white caps. Would you believe we topped 18.5 knots per GPS on a
close reach. With less then 12 knots of true wind!! The boat is equipped
with all the bells and whistles. The interior is magnificent down to the
smallest detail.
I own an F-27 and it is like an old shoe. It fits me perfectly. Maybe I'm
just used to it. The F-33 is a beautiful design, sails very well and looks
terrific but may not be for everyone....even if you can afford it. In
moderate to strong winds it would be a handful to someone who is not
competent in sailing a high performance boat and is a bit out of shape.
All in all it was a wonderful sail!
