They're pin-compatible, but not electrically equivalent due to a
different gas fill. Dance (Electronic Counting Circuits) specifically
cautions against direct substitution as it leads to significantly
reduced life of the EZ10A. So, you're probably OK for a short test to
see if the tube works, but not to run more extensively. Since it's
over-current that would be the concern, I'm guessing that you could
make the EZ10A happy long term by increasing the anode resistor, but I
can't lay my hands on the relevant numbers to substantiate that at the
moment.
Yes, this is right. Since there are no anode/cathode current data available
for the EZ10A I reduced the anode/cathode current to a value where it does
not "hang" and the glow is bright and clear. You also can do so.
But the EZ10x are not very critical to gt them work.
