Got it today! After a few hours of de-greasing, de-sharpying and removing plastic parts, everything looks very nice and shiny plus a few dents/scratches I expected. It turns out that the flat end (the one without the piston hole) does actually have a hole in it (I assume for pressurized air) that is wide enough to sneak a few cables through, including a power cable. I will probably still use the end with the large hole for convenience, though. Plus, they end with the hole has some cool copper-colored metal inside. This will make for a very snazzy clock!
