I bought a large number of NOS/NIB tubes from REL when they were
clearing their nixie stocks - they are all completely unmarked,
awaiting their final supplier to print whatever on them. I had toyed
with the ideas of doing my own printing.

I have several dozen NL5870L tubes that have 2002 date codes, put on
there by REL when I ordered a batch after first conceiving the 2-digit
Nixie watch.
The real date codes are 1973, as I have many more in the bulk factory
packaging.
