I've always soldered the leads of IN-14's, never gave it much consideration. Never had a problem. I think that the thing you want to avoid is soldering the nixies which need sockets. IN-8's, IN-12's, IN-18's, that kind of thing. The ones with flying leads are _designed_ to be soldered.
