Hey Greg, I have an excellent HP counter that I just couldn't bear to modify so I still have one such cord. On the rest of my instruments, I've been able to find non-EMI filter IEC connector that could be made to fit with a little nibbler work. There's usually enough room in those old machines for those short non-EMI sockets.
The worst I've ever had to do was fabricate a cover plate for the old style socket and cut an IEC socket elsewhere on the back panel.
