The Google Drive folder needs to have the "sync" and "syncRoot" properties set to "true" to enable actual synchronizing downloads. Otherwise you get "Provided id is not a sync root directory" errors and you can't sync. I was able to download the whole thing (but not in sync mode, so it isn't updatable via sync and the file timestamps are the downloaded time instead of the real times.
