Hi all
If I remember correctly there is an 'art' to getting the hole sizes correct for reliable soldering and having an over sized hole makes for easier assembly but greater risk of solder fractures. Another desk manufacturer had a problem with PCB mounted XLRs on a sub board with 1 XLR and 3 TRS jacks and the only 'cure' was to fit short wires to the contacts of the XLR so the 'ease of assembly' was totally negated. Getting the holes in EXACTLY the right positions is also important as you can 'stress' the pots causing premature failure. I know of one place where leaving a small 'anti rotation pip' in contact with a panel without the corresponding 'notch' caused the pot to fail after about 2 months simply because it was not quite sitting 'true'. With the benefit of hindsight there is a lot of very subtle 'stuff' going on out there. A good dose of resoldering should cure most ills at least in the medium term.

I would just add to this that in my experience with the Series II's that I have worked on, many of the physically larger contacts appear to have questionable soldering. This would apply mainly to the pots and male Molex headers. My read on this is that the soldering irons that were used to manufacture the boards were a bit on the small side. This would have made them okay for soldering resistors, caps, IC sockets etc. but not so good for the big stuff. If you have doubts about a particular pot or other large contact I would recommend 1st de-soldering, then clean the lead with some isopropyl alcohol, then apply some no-clean flux (sparingly) and then re-solder with a no-clean solder and at least a 60 watt iron (like a Weller W60P). Also, WRT the Molex headers, I found that the end pin in each row was particularly susceptible to having cracked solder joints.

immune to cold solder joint problems, especially, as Jared pointed
out, on the molex pins.
