On most mic preamp section of consoles there is a large capacitor
connected in series with the gain potentiometer.
The standard configuration of the transistors in a mic preamp is a
mirror pair linked by ther emitters
This is where the pot and the large capatitor are "insterted" (between
the tansistors emitter to control the gain)
The large capacitor's purpose is to remove any gain in the 0 Hz region(DC)
If the large capacitor is leaking DC, you will a large DC gain. That
will offset your audio signal, and/or cause some
constant overload on the clip led. This will be gain dependant, you will
have some sound but and will make the preamp useless has it is clipping
the signal as soon as you trun the gain "on"
